The American committee "Women against threat of rape" suggests to operate in case of an attack with umbrella as a bayonet, but in no circumstances to not swing, over wise it can be pull out from hands and applied against the victim.
In the beginning of 1990s years naval department of USA has allowed sailors in the form to carry umbrellas, but only black color and only in the left hand that it was possible to salute free. And in the charter of English army in XIX century there were next lines: "Officers during fight are forbidden to use umbrellas to not make laugh the enemy..."
